Myriad Finance · Athlete Family Finance

Supporting the dream without sacrificing your family's financial future.

Elite sport takes commitment from the whole family. We help families of emerging and elite athletes make clearer mortgage and lending decisions around the realities of training, travel, competition and opportunity.

The reality behind the result

When the sporting pathway grows, so can the financial pressure.

Behind every emerging athlete is a family balancing normal household commitments with coaching, competition fees, equipment, interstate travel, international campaigns and opportunities that often arrive with little warning.

Those decisions can affect cash flow, borrowing capacity, property plans and long-term financial goals. The question is not simply, “Can we pay for the next competition?” It is, “How do we support this opportunity without creating avoidable financial pressure elsewhere?”

“Who is helping the families behind the athletes?”

That question is the reason this service exists. Myriad Finance brings strategic lending experience to a very specific family challenge: supporting the sporting dream while protecting the broader financial picture.

CompetitionEntry fees, national events and repeated travel can quickly become a major annual household expense.
International pathwaysSelection can create short-notice costs for flights, accommodation, camps and team commitments.
Home & lendingYour mortgage, refinance, equity and future borrowing still need to work around family life.
Long-term choicesShort-term sporting opportunities should be considered within a bigger financial strategy, not in isolation.

A dedicated service

The Athlete Family Finance Review

A focused conversation designed for families actively supporting an athlete through state, national or international competition.

Better structure creates better cash flow. Better cash flow creates better choices.

Val's role is not to promise to “fund the athlete”. It is to help your family understand whether your lending and financial structure still supports where life — and sport — is taking you.

What we can review

  • Your existing home loan and lending structure
  • Cash-flow pressure created by training and competition commitments
  • Refinancing options and whether they genuinely improve your position
  • Available equity and the implications of accessing it
  • Upcoming property, renovation or investment plans
  • Future borrowing requirements and how today's choices may affect them
  • A practical review cadence as the sporting pathway changes

Any lending recommendation remains subject to individual circumstances, lender policy, eligibility and responsible lending requirements.

From help to long-term partnership

Support at each stage of the journey.

1

Understand

Start with education and clarity. Understand the financial considerations that can arise when a young athlete moves into higher-performance sport.

2

Review

When national or international competition becomes real, review the family's current lending position, expected commitments and available options.

3

Partner

As the sporting and family journey evolves, keep the financial strategy under review so lending decisions continue to support the bigger picture.

The people behind the idea

Three journeys. One very real challenge.

Eliana in her taekwondo dobok, representing Italy

Eliana

Val’s understanding of the commitment behind elite sport began close to home. His niece’s journey took her from winning the Italian Championships internationally in Baku in 2014 - an incredible achievement built on years of discipline, sacrifice and family support.

Val saw firsthand that talent and determination are only part of the journey. Behind every competition are the growing costs of coaching, equipment, travel and accommodation, often carried by families determined to give young athletes every opportunity to succeed.

Her journey inspired Val to help other sporting families plan ahead, structure their finances more effectively and ensure financial pressure does not stand between a talented athlete and their potential.

Daniel in his karate gi at an international competition

Daniel

As an emerging international karate athlete, Daniel's pathway brings together training, national competition, overseas events and the opportunity to represent Australia.

Behind that pathway is a family making significant financial commitments while still managing ordinary household goals and responsibilities.

This journey helped crystallise the question at the heart of Athlete Family Finance: how do families support the dream without compromising their financial future?

Arthur

Arthur’s journey is another example of what can happen when passion is backed by genuine support.

Through Myriad Finance, Val has proudly supported Arthur and Team Atran as they pursue their ambitions on the racetrack. It is about more than having the Myriad Finance name trackside—it is about supporting a client in something they have worked hard to build.

Arthur’s story reflects what Myriad Finance stands for: understanding what matters to each client and helping them structure their finances around the life, family and goals they are working towards.

Why we created this

A partnership designed to create something bigger than sponsorship.

Through Myriad Finance's connection with athletes and families living the high-performance journey, we have seen first-hand that sporting ambition and family finance are rarely separate conversations.

This initiative is about creating a genuine service for the families behind emerging and elite athletes — combining lived experience with Val Barbati's background in mortgage broking, lending strategy, debt restructuring and cash-flow optimisation.

The goal: give athlete families greater clarity around their financial choices so financial pressure does not become another opponent.
